Brandon Allen Quartet plays Gene Ammons

Despite two visits to the penitentiary due to drug problems, Gene Ammons was a prolific and popular recording artist, a richly toned, warm sounding tenorist, who contributed to what became known as 'soul jazz'. His accessible style was tied to the blues and R&B traditions but, nonetheless, he held a distinctive niche, especially as a balladeer.
Brandon Allen, who brings his first rate quartet to this project, has been described as 'energising the London jazz scene'. He regularly hosts the Late, Late Show at Ronnie Scott's with his band and is Director of the Highgate Jazz with Soul Festival.
